Description and Review: Georgie Porgie is another in Microgaming’s ‘Rhyming Reels’ series of slots based on nursery rhymes.

This time they’ve brought Georgie into the 21st Century with a kind of high school theme. There are high school girls, Jock football players as well as the traditional symbols.

The team here – especially Alison – has never been impressed with the whole Rhyming Reels idea. They are often a little bit tacky, even sleazy in implementation. And, sorry to say, Georgie Porgie is no exception. They’ve made Georgie himself look like some kind of buck toothed weirdo and the use of Breath Freshener as the scatter symbol just reinforces the idea that here is a nerd who deserves to be beaten up by Jocks.

For us, we find the whole Rhyming Reels concept distasteful but at least this isn’t as bad as the Jack N’ Jill one. However, we know that many of you don’t feel the same way, so this is the last time we’ll mention it. Instead we’ll just get on with the review!

Firstly, Georgie Porgie is a lot (and we mean a lot) like Break Da Bank Again. That’s definitely not a bad thing, but it is pretty close in terms of overall game play.

While we don’t really like the Rhyming Reels idea, there is actually plenty to recommend Georgie Porgie as a slot machine. For a start, this is a low variance slot but it has a high potential maximum win of 975,000 coins. Base game wins do appear regularly enough and are worth the time invested in playing the game.

Look out, particularly, for wins involving wild (Georgie Porgie logos) symbols as these pay x5 in the regular game. And 25x in the free spins round.

We had a whole run of wins in the base game where the wild was part of the winning line and that kind of generosity is always liable to make us like a slot machine.

What we didn’t get was any five of a kinds of any symbol, but a quick look at the paytable will show you that Georgie Porgie isn’t just about pudding and pie. He’s also about da money, too!

Microgaming have also taken a leaf out the NextGen slot playbook with a ‘gamble’ feature. Any win (including free spins) can be gambled by guessing whether a card will be red or black. Or by predicting the suit. The ‘Gamble’ link doesn’t actually appear until you’ve hit a winning line. When it does it is sitting on top of the ‘Spin’ button. Not sure if we like that as it could mean accidental clicks, but we guess they’ve got to put it somewhere.

Throw in a free spins round (triggered by the aforementioned Breath Freshener symbols) and you’ve got a pretty solid slots game.
