Description and Review: There has been a surprising amount of hype from a number of online casinos ahead of the release of NetEnt’s ‘Twin Spin’ slot. I say ‘surprising’ because, having played it, it’s not the super-innovative, radically different slot machine experience that they were promising.
Don’t get me wrong. It does look good and the ‘twin reel’ feature is intriguing. It’s more that: there’s nothing more to it than this.
If you haven’t already tried out the free demo above, let me quickly explain this ‘twin reel’ feature. Basically, when you hit ‘spin’ two of the reels are linked and all the symbols on one are cloned on the other. Depending on the position of these two reels, you could get multiple wins as a result.
In fact, the feature goes one step further and occasionally a third, fourth or even fifth reel is linked and cloned. When this happens, I have to confess it looks impressive (can you hear the ‘but’ ?)
But, a check of the paytable reveals that the winning combinations don’t actually pay out that much, so the effect is lessened a lot when you realise you’ve only won ?2 or something. This is partly mitigated by the fact that wins do hit fairly often, but the lack of any other feature (free spins, bonus rounds, etc.) means that the cloned reels idea gets dull quickly.
For me, the whole ‘twin reel’ thing would be excellent as one feature of a better slot machine but as the ONLY feature, it doesn’t have lasting appeal.
