Description and Review: Venice is, supposedly, one of Europe’s most romantic cities. That is certainly what the Hearts of Venice slot is buying into. As well as hearts, there are Red Roses, Gondolas, the Rialto Bridge and other symbols of both love and Venice itself. Honestly? It does look a bit cheesy but I guess some people might find it cute.
Probably the first thing you will notice is that the Heart Symbols change into other random symbols at the end of every spin. The good thing is that each Heart symbol (whether it is on the same reel or not) changes into the same new symbol after the reels has stopped spinning. To clarify: all of the heart symbols might change into a Gondolier symbol after one spin and they might all change into the Blonde Woman symbol after the next.
This is a cool touch – meaning that new wins can be created even after the reels have stopped.
That’s not to say that Hearts of Venice is a particularly loose slot – it isn’t. The house edge is a little over 4%, so expect to have some streaky sessions on this one.
The most frequently triggered feature of this game is what Williams are calling the ‘Hot Hot Super Respin’. And yes, that’s cheesy too.
This happens if you get a complete reel of Heart symbols on Reel 1. The reels then re-spin twice with any Heart of Venice wilds remaining locked in place. A winning combination can pay quite well with this feature. But be warned – you could easily end up with nothing. It’s not unusual. In fact, it happened to us quite often.
The second feature is a free spins round, triggered by three or more scattered Lovers Silhouette symbols. More cheesiness here, I’m afraid. The free spins (you get 10 but it can be re-triggered) is introduced with a screen of rose petals and the music changes to some kind of Viennese Waltz, created on what sounds like a 80s Casino keyboard. Ugh.
There is a bonus guarantee, though, so you won’t win less than 10x your bet size.
However, the very existence of a ‘guarantee’ tells you pretty much all you need to know about Hearts of Venice. This is a slot where the features can be really poor. I’m going to conclude this slot review by saying that this is a cheesy looking game that can be really disappointing. Granted, it can pay out big but there’s much better WMS slots games out there.
